My name is Danielle Seifert and I’m the doula behind Truthful Beginnings. I live in Lawrenceville, Illinois with my high school sweetheart, Joel. We have been married for almost 12 years and have four children. Luke is nine, Stella is seven, Jett is five, and Kal is 2. We also have a few animals. A labradoodle named Mia, two cats, Prudence and Panther, and a dozen chickens! Joel works full time and we are blessed he works from home. When I’m not supporting families I love just spending time with my own family and planning to grow our own little homestead!
I started my journey to become a doula in 2016. After two very different birth experiences I started doing lots of research and studying about normal physiological birth. My first pregnancy was fairly easy, and when I reached 39 weeks my doctor asked if I wanted to be induced. I didn’t know any better and decided to be induced. I was 39 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I had planned a medication free birth and taken the hospital childbirth class. When I felt the urge to push, my son had flipped during labor and he was breech. So, I was prepped for a cesarean and put under general anesthesia to deliver my first baby. That was not the experience I had dreamed about. I felt like something had been robbed from me. When we were pregnant with our second, I knew I wanted something different. I chose to deliver at a free-standing birthing center under the care of midwives. My pregnancy went to 41 weeks 3 days when my water broke. I labored at home all day, and went to the birth center to have my daughter two hours before she was born. I rocked my VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) and had a wonderful water birth. After her birth I realized what amazing things women’s bodies are capable of. I had experienced the most beautiful and empowering thing and wished all moms got the same opportunity! I trained through CAPPA and became a Certified Labor Doula. A few months after the training I found out I was expecting our third child. We again started care with the midwives at the birth center. Around 33 weeks I decided to look into homebirth midwives. I had dreamed of a homebirth ever since I had proved to myself that my body COULD birth a baby. So, in my third trimester I decided we would have a homebirth with an incredible team of midwives. I went into labor with him at 41 weeks 4 days, and had a beautiful water birth in our bedroom. It was amazing.
I had our 4th baby at home the day after his due date and it was a fast birth just about 2 hours after I woke up to my water breaking!
I am grateful for each of my experiences because through each one I grew as a mom, doula, wife, and friend. I have such a different understanding of all types of birth and how women see birth and themselves. I know the struggle of feeling like you’ve failed because you didn’t push your baby out. I know the healing that comes with proving to yourself that you can do it. And the immense joy that comes with seeing other moms have the births they desire.
My passion for this work comes from deep within. It comes from a fire inside me that wants all women to know all their options and be informed about their birth. Many women fear birth and make decisions in pregnancy and birth out of that fear. I want to make sure moms know all they can about pregnancy, labor, and delivery before the day comes so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their family.
I am honored to support each and every one of you. I am here to help you achieve your best birth by supporting you in the decisions you make. I want all women to feel heard and respected during their births. I strive to help moms be advocates for themselves and empower themselves with the knowledge they need to have their perfect birth.
